I cannot Branch Files

Post by kstarsmeare » Tue Sep 07, 2004 6:15 am

I want to branch a pinned shared file, but the option is always greyed out (both when I right click and from the Source menu).

I keep having to use VSS when I need to branch files (which is hopeless when I'm working from home).

We're using SourceOffSite Classic Version 4.0 (no cryptography).

How are the files being pinned and shared? Using SOS or VSS?

Does the file show the shared icon correctly in the file list view?

The files were pinned using VSS (by another user) - does that matter?

They correctly show the pin icon - but if I unpin they don't appear with a shared icon - but the properties link tab does show that it is a shared file.

If SOS does not display a shared icon when the file is unpinned, then it does not think the file is shared, which explains why the Branch menu is disabled.

Do you know the steps used by the VSS user to get the files into this state? Does the file appear shared in VSS after it is unpinned?

But if I click Properties on one of the shared files it does show the shares on the links tab - so SOS does know that it is shared. Also it has the pin icon - and you cannot pin an unshared file!

I'm not convinced that the files are in a bad state. I have discovered that other users of this repository can branch files.

Perhaps I need to reinstall the client?

Reinstalling didn't help. So I blew away the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SourceOffSite

As it hadn't been removed by uninstalling.

Upon starting up SOS and reconnecting to the repository I am able to branch shared files! Hooray!
