Is Vault dead?

Post by neal007 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:41 am

Why so little development activity? So few updates? Where is v6? Is it worth paying maintenance for anymore? I get the feeling Vault is not the focus of this company any more??

Dead? Not by a long shot. However, we haven't been too public with any activity as right now were elbows deep in the code for Vault 6's notification / messaging system as well as the new indexing service for search in files.

I've posted on our feature set for Vault 6. What else would you like to know?

I think from the consumer confidence standpoint and when having to pay annual maintenance, we want to know we are getting something for our money. I've made my suggestions known already but the main one I really want is to be able to view my files fully online (web based) with line numbers like GIT and Visual SVN server I use for my Mac stuff. And of course a Mac client would be nice so I can use one system and not have to have something else for my Mac work.

Love the product, hope to continue using your services.

Vault 6 is under development!

In fact we've been doing some R & D on a Mac Client for Vault. It would use Mono, an open-source implementation of .Net. The results look promising, and at the point we have something ready for Beta-testing, we'd love to get you involved.

Regarding viewing web-based files:
the main one I really want is to be able to view my files fully online (web based) with line numbers
We still have your feature request 15500 under consideration, but in the meantime:

Have you tried the Blame feature in the Vault Web Client? When you drill down to the folder level in the Vault Web Client and click on one of the files in the list, the next page shows the file history with columns for Diff, Blame and Detail. If you click (or view) Blame for one of the file versions, you'll see that version of the file with line numbers. There's also information on who modified a particular line and in which version.

Linda,

As I replied to your suggestion of using BLAME before, unless I'm doing something wrong, it does not show you the complete file.

I had used Blame to look at a few files, and they were complete, but you're correct, in some cases the entire file is not presented.

I'll bump up priority for feature request 15500.
