'Share' option. Link or copy ?

Is the 'Share' option a copy or a link from the source of any folder/file ?

When you share a file or folder, you create a linked copy in another location in the tree. The copy is not independent; whenever you make a change to the file or folder, it is reflected in the share link.

This is different than a branch operation, where you make a copy in a different location, but file or folder is not linked and any new changes are independent of the file/folder that was branched.
