Connection errors moving to new SQL server

Post by binoman » Mon Oct 18, 2010 12:02 pm

Hi All,

We recently had to move the SQL DB that also contained our vault db to a new server. When we moved the server we gave the server the same name and copied oveer the db.

When we try and connect to vault we keep getting the DB connect fail error.

at VaultServiceAPILib.VaultServiceAPISystem.GetOpenSqlConn(VaultSqlConn& conn)
----10/18/2010 10:50:03 AM bino--bino.vpd.local(10.1.2.57)--SSL Disabled Vault Failed to establish a connection to the database.
----10/18/2010 10:50:03 AM bino--bino.vpd.local(10.1.2.57)--SSL Disabled System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database requested in login 'sgvault'. Login fails.
Login failed for user 'sgvaultuser'.

I know this may be some account being out of sync for the sgvault user or sgvaultuser acct. Is there a way to reset the sgvault username and password on the server portion? I know we can reset it on the sql box but we dont know how youd reset these so they match on the web server side. Trying to do this without having to reinstall everything again. it should be transparent.

When you move the database to a new SQL Server, you also have to delete and recreate the database user. We'd recommend uninstalling Vault, leaving the databases, then moving the databases to the new SQL Server. Next, reinstall Vault, pointing it to the new database location. Details here:

Thank you. Since we are on 5.03 can we install 5.04 or do we need a new license to do that? We purchased and bought support for the year.

You can upgrade at no cost to Vault 5.0.4, as it is a maintenance release, not a full version upgrade.

Yes. A Vault 5.0.x license will work in any Vault 5.0.x release.
