API Commit Failure

I'm getting the rather unhelpful error "Commit failed" when I try to check in a file using the API. There's no inner error so I don't really have anything to go on.
I tried checking it in via the vault client and I got the following attached error dialog. Also not very illuminating.

Check the messages pane in the Vault Client. It's a tab at the bottom of the client window. Anything useful there?
