Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
I have installed Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate.
After running the repair option on my Vault installation I now have acces to the enhanced Vault client from within the VS 2010 IDE.
I have opened up a project that is under source control with Vault and everything migrated without error.
One thing that I notice though is that my files in the Solution Explorer no longer have the lock/unlocked icons next to them. New files do not get the plus icon either.
Is there a setting that I need to change to bring back this funtion or is this a problem with the current Vault client, or simply not available within VS 2010 anymore. I found this a very nice feature so I could visually see which files have been added or modified since the last checkin and hope that I can get this back.
Thanks!

Do you still have the source control menus when you right-click an item?
What VS version did you migrate from?
Could you describe the steps of the migration?
What type of project is this?

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
Linda,
I still have the source control menu items if I right click on a file. Also if I open a file I can see the lock icon in the file name tab -- when I edit the file the lock is replaced with an "*" indicating that the file has been modified and needs to be saved. This is normal, but I'm mentioning it so that it's clear that the converted project is under souce control. I can also use the vault client to see that changes are being saved to the respoitory.
I migrated this project from VS 2008.
To preform the migration I just opened the .sln file in VS 2010. I was then prompted to convert the file to a VS 2010 solution. The conversion ran OK.
This is a web project and I am running version 5.0.3.18802 of the Vault client and server.
Please let me know if there is anymore information that I can provide.

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
I was able to reproduce this, but it turns out this is a known bug, workitem 15021. It doesn't have anything to do with the conversion; it's just that in VS 2010 web projects, only the solution file has the lock icon or "glyph."
We'll fix this in a maintenance release, but I'm not sure how soon it will be.

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
Thanks Linda.
Can you point me to any documents that discuss the recomended method to migrate a project under source control from one version of Visual Studio to a newer version? I see to be having to jump through several hoops to get other projects converted. Maybe this is normal, but I might be doing it the hard way also

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
I converted a VS 2008 web project the same way you did -- opening it with VS 2010. It was just a small test project, so it converted rather quickly.
I did an Internet search on conversions and found this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 00%29.aspx
It refers to converting a VS 2005 project to VS 2008, but it's very similar going from VS 2008 to VS 2010.
The main issue in converting a project under source control is to convert the project in the working directory and checkin the updated solution and other files. If the converted project isn't in the working directory, then you'd need to checkout the files in the working directory and copy over the converted files and check those in and add any new ones.

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
what is the status on this work item? Although this isn't a mission-critical issue, it still feels like we're only getting half of the "full support" promised in VS 2010...
if it is at all possible, please increase the priority of this item. thank you

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
This does seem like a major annoyance. This doesn't stop me from being able to use Vault, but over the years, I have grown used to seeing those icons. It's a bit unnerving for them to not be there.
Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
Understood.
We're currently working on a maintenance release for these VS 2010 issues, and hope to have things fixed within that release.

It's fairly high priority for our next maintenance release. We don't have a target date as yet, but probably within the next few months.

Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
We now have a pre-release version of Vault 5.0.4 which includes a fix for problems within Visual Studio 2010. Anyone interested in trying this out on a trial basis should send an email to "vaultbeta AT sourcegear DOT com"RichardWest wrote:One thing that I notice though is that my files in the Solution Explorer no longer have the lock/unlocked icons next to them. Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
We are seeing a similar behavior in Fortress 2.0.3 - is there already a bug logged for this for Fortress or is it just for Vault?
Re: Source control icons not appearing in Visual Studio 2010
This will be addressed in a release of Vault 5.0.4 and Fortress 2.0.4. There is also a Fortress 2.0.4 pre-release version available. Mail "fortressbeta AT sourcegear DOT com" if you would like more details.ajshah wrote:We are seeing a similar behavior in Fortress 2.0.3 - is there already a bug logged for this for Fortress or is it just for Vault?
