hi.
i just bought updates for my 6 vault clients. i have a vault 4 installation on a w2k3 x86 server. i need to change to a 2008r2 x64 server. my plan was to do the following:
- install vault 5 server on the new machine
- detach sgvault and sgmaster from sal server on the new machine
- copy sgvault and sgmaster from the old machine to the new machine
- attach sql server to the files just copied
is this a plausible way of doing both the update as well as the server-change? (if not, what do you suggest i should do?)

Re: How to update and change server
Recommended steps would be to backup your Vault databases first. Then restore a backup to the new SQL Server or detach the databases and re-attach on the new server.
Then install the 64-bit installer for Vault 5.0.x. The databases should be in place before installing all because the installer creates the necessary logins and user roles in SQL Server.
Let me know if you have additional questions.

Re: How to update and change server
I have a similar situation, but my database and server are on two separate machines. I've been using vault for the past 6yrs and just upgraded my licenses from 4 to 5 and went to run the Server install, I learned that you no longer support Windows 2000 Server.
How should I go about moving my current installation over to a Windows 2008 Server/Upgrading to v5 in the process?
Current setup:
Server1 (win 2000) - Vault Server v4.1.4.18402
Server2 - SQL 2000/SP4 - Vault Databases
Moving & Upgrading to:
Server 1a - win 2008 - Vault Server v5.0.3.18802
Server2 - SQL 2000/SP4 - Vault Databases
Since I can't run the v5.x installer at all, should I uninstall/reinstall v4.x on the new w2008 Server - THEN upgrade to v5.x?
Thanks,
~Chris

Re: How to update and change server
Your steps would be to backup your databases, uninstall Vault 4.1.4, and keep the databases in place on the SQL Server 2000 machine when prompted.
Then install Vault 5.x on the new Windows Server 2008 machine. Point the installer to the database location. The Vault 5.x server installer should be able to upgrade your 4.1.4 database.
Note: if Vault is not on the same machine as SQL Server, you will need to use a custom (domain) account for the IIS process model or use SQL Server authentication during the SQL Server setup portion of the installation.
You might want to review our installation guide for more details about this.
