Enhanced client for VS 2010?

Post by neal007 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 6:08 am

Hello,

I installed VS 2010 RTM and it looks like only the classic (MSSCI) client exists. I've grown accustomed to the features and capabilities of the enhanced client, do you envision an enhanced client for VS 2010 and if so, when should subscription holders expect the update?

I also would have expected to see a KB article or transition instructions on how to take a VS 2008 solution under the enhanced client and move it to VS 2010 with the only vault client available. It was a bit cumbersome and I had to remove all SCC bindings then rebind it, play a few tricks in VS 2010 setting SCC to none, etc.

As VS 2010 has been in beta/RC for quite some time, I would hope the enhanced client is near complete and I would have hoped, as a subscription holder, it would have been available on the 12th along with the RTM of VS 2010.

Actually, I'm in the middle of writing a KB article about this and yes, I know, it should have been done sooner. Here's an excerpt:
Vault 5.0 fully supports integration with Visual Studio 2010.

If you are currently using Vault 5.0 and are upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, first install VS 2010, then uninstall and reinstall the Vault client or run a repair install.

We recommend that you use Vault 5.0.3. It's a free upgrade if you're on an earlier 5.0.x. Version.

Reinstalling the Vault Client or running a repair installation will create the necessary registry keys in the Visual Studio 2010 registry hive for Enhanced Client integration with Vault.

Now you should see the default source control options in Visual Studio 2010 under Tools->Options->Source Control You may need to check the box for Show All Settings to see the Source Control settings. Expand the Source Control node, then click Plugin selection. Select SourceGear Vault Visual Studio Enhanced Client.

Vault 3.x and 4.x do not support Visual Studio 2010 integration. Classic client integration might work, but we haven't tested earlier versions of Vault with Visual Studio 2010.

Thank you Linda. Uninstall/Reinstall worked. Repair didn't work because I guess you're not caching the install files on Win7?

Personal opinion, don't make customers come to you for this info, e-mail your customers on how to get Vault/Fortress to work in VS 2010. Take the info to them.

My $.02

Regardless, huge sigh of relief to have Vault Enhanced Client back - really got used to it!
