SOS 5 Performance Problem

SOS 5 Performance Problem
We upgraded to 5 a couple of months ago. Initially it appeared to be faster than the previous version, but performance has degraded now to the point where it is a major wait just to refresh the contents of a folder when logging in. The product is almost to the point of being unusable. Are there any factors we can look at that would impact performance? We never had any performance issues with the prior version. Bandwidth is plentiful. Machines are beefy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: SOS 5 Performance Problem
Has anything changed with your VSS database(s)? Have they grown or have you added databases or users?
Did your version of VSS on the SOS Server machine change?
Have you run Analyze on your VSS database(s) lately?
We recommend that you run Analyze.exe twice, first with the -f parameter (to fix any errors found),
and the second time with the -c parameter to check if any errors remain.
You might also check the SOS Server log to see if there are any consistent errors reported. The SOS Server log is called log.txt and is in the SOS Server directory on the SOS Server machine.

Some more thoughts --
Does a restart of the SOS server service help?
What version of the ssapi.dll are you using (this you can see the version i nthe SOS log file)?
What version of the SOS client and server are you using? What previous version were you using?

Re: SOS 5 Performance Problem
No, nothing has changed. No more users. Version of VSS has not changed. We have 7 different VSS databases that we regularly access. They are all equally slow. I will run Analyze after hours, but not seeing anything that would indicate corruption.
The only consistent item in the log that looks odd is this:
2010-04-12 10:39:10,970 - 97: ProtocolMessage.ParseStream() - Socket error reading the crypto header. (Read 0 of 24 bytes). Exception: Exception: CONNECTION CLOSED

Re: SOS 5 Performance Problem
We'd like to know what versiof the SourceSafe ssapi.dll are you using. Check the System Info tab on the SOS Server Manager in the SourceOffSite 5 Server directory or the SOS Server's log file (log.txt) also in that same directory.
Also, if you restart the SOS Server service, do things speed up again, at least for a while?
Finally, what version of the SOS client and server are you using? What previous version were you using?

Re: SOS 5 Performance Problem
SOS Client .exe version: 5.0.1.242
SOS Server version: 5.0
SSAPI.DLL version: 6.0.31222.0
Nothing speeds up with restart.
The most painfully slow function is when a directory in the SOS client is clicked and apparently the contents of the directory are gathered up. That is EXTREMELY slow.
Previous client version was SOS 4.

Re: SOS 5 Performance Problem
There are a number of ssapi.dll versions, and some of them do not provide optimal performance with SOS 5.0.
We recommend upgrading both client and server to SOS 5.0.2. It's a free upgrade.
We also suggested using a different version of VSS client on the SOS server machine.
The best version to use with SOS 5.0 is VSS 2005 with the update.

Another option would be VSS 6.0d, with ssapi.dll version 6.0.9848.
Note: if you use this version, you need to make a modification to the registry to avoid a concurrency crash:
