Get Latest problem

Post by rda » Fri Feb 19, 2010 10:00 am

Hello,

I have a teammate trying to do a "Get Latest" with Vault (client/server version 5.0, on WinXP Pro) but the "Get Latest" is not retrieving all the files from the folder. She has tried deleting the target folder completely, then doing a get latest from Vault, but still only a portion of the files are actually downloaded from Vault. Why is this happening and how can we fix it? Whatever is happening seems like very unintuitive behavior - if I am getting latest and have nothing on my computer, everything should be downloaded, of course, right?

Thanks!

Yes, I get latest should get everything. There could be network errors, antivirus, etc. interfering with the download.

It is happening only to a single user, or do all users experienced this?

How big is the get? Is she getting a single folder or doing a large recursive get?

Is the user using the Vault client or Visual Studio?

Are there any errors in the client after the get?

Are there any errors in the Vault Server log that correspond to the failure?

"It is happening only to a single user, or do all users experienced this?"
- Only a single user.

"How big is the get? Is she getting a single folder or doing a large recursive get?"
- The get is a large recursive get on one folder with about 20-30 sub-folders beneath it.

"Is the user using the Vault client or Visual Studio?"
- Vault client

"Are there any errors in the client after the get?"
- No errors

"Are there any errors in the Vault Server log that correspond to the failure?"
- Unfortunately it's not easy for me to access the log since the server is managed by our IT group and it requires paperwork to retrieve things - I can get it if necessary but it'll take awhile so I think of it as a last resort.

I was thinking maybe the working folders on the sub-folders in her Vault client settings were wrong but I had her reset the working folder and select the "Force folders to inherit from this one" option which, as far as I understand, should have taken care of it...

In terms of what's actually being "gotten" it seems like about half the folders download, but NO actual files from the root folder.

She is at lunch now but we will try again after lunch.

I fixed it by messing with her working folders-

It seems that a couple things went wrong:

A: She had another project tied to the working folder she wanted to use
B: She missed a ":" in "C:\" for setting a working folder; this resulted in the weird half-Get that occurred; maybe some of the children folders had inherited the correct parent from earlier or something.

So we're all set, thanks!
