Get Latest doesn't update well in Search tab

Post by stevek2 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:03 pm

If I use the search dialog to search for 'Any Status', and it shows some files with Status = Old, I then right-click on an Old file, and select "Get Latest Version". Vault actually _does_ immediately get the file, but the search dialog is not updated immediately -- it takes until the next refresh cycle of the search, maybe 30 seconds, before the Old file is removed from the search list. It would be nice if it were updated, and removed from the list, immediately; as it was, it looked to me like Get Latest Version was broken, because it still showed up in the list at least for a while. Just a suggestion.

I don't have the same behavior, so I'll need to collect some information to try and see if we can reproduce this with something closer to your environment.

Could you open your Vault GUI client, go to Help - Technical Support and copy the information from there? Then just post the environment information. I don't need any of the licensing information.

How large is your Vault database? How many files had a status of 'Old?'

Database is 6.75GB. There are only 4-5 'old' files listed in the search. I have 'Recursive', 'Lock onto this Folder', and 'Background Updates' checked; behavior still happens even with 'Background Updates' unchecked.

Does this happen with all users?

Are you on the same network or working remotely?

It happens on at least one other user, although his refresh time is maybe 5-10 seconds, rather than 20+ on mine. We are on a 100Mbps LAN connection to our server.

I've tried on a few machines and can't seem to reproduce the behavior. I think this will vary by machine. There might be a different way of going about this that could help either way. I'm going to log a request on this.

Some things you can try to see if you get an improvement for right now would be:
--set working folders only for the items you work on instead of the entire tree
--turn off folder security
--if the disk is writing during this operation, check your disk speeds to see if they are ok or slow.
--sometimes speed is improved by turning off a few of the extra features in Vista such as Aero.
