Feature Request: Consistent Dialog Placement
I'd like to request a feature added to consistently pop-up windows in the center of the screen OR in the (exact) last position it was closed from.
I don't know how this hasn't come up before, I've been using Vault for some 5yrs+ now thinking surely this will be in a bugfix/new release but it just hasn't ever come around. It seems that nearly all dialog boxes to check in/out files creep down the screen each and every time they're displayed. Don't believe me? Try this, go into your project, don't have *anything* checked out, right click a file/project/solution and choose Check-In. The dialog will pop telling you "hey idiot, you don't have anything checked out!" but the more you do it, you'll see the dialog inch its way down the screen.
Before you fire up the flame thrower, No, this is not normal practice, this is just a good quick way to prove my point.
Now check a file out, go to check it in, viola! Notice how the Check In dialog is now just a little lower than it was last time? I've had times where it's almost completely off the bottom of the screen. Seriously, can't we just have this fixed and make it always popup in the same friggen place instead of letting "Windows handle position"?
whew, I think I actually feel somewhat better now that I've gotten that off my chest

We'll try to reproduce this. What version of Vault and Visual Studio are you using?

This has been the same since Vault 3.x with VS2003, was the same during my usage with vs2005 and Vault 4.0
Currently running 4.1.3.18336 using VS2008.

Interesting, this is indeed correct, my taskbar is docked at the top - but I'm only using a single monitor.
So this was going to be fixed in 4.0, any chance this can be revived?

Re: Feature Request: Consistent Dialog Placement
This is a known issue and is logged as bug 9861 in our bug tracking system. It was originally scheduled to be fixed in Vault 4.0, but was moved to a later release. I've added your comments and bumped it up in priority, though I don't know when it might be fixed.
The only workaround is to move the taskbar to the bottom of the screen.

Re: Feature Request: Consistent Dialog Placement
Thanks but I'm not really interested in a "work around" especially one as absurd as "oh, you have a problem with our application when you do that? well, don't do that anymore".
Still, good product, just don't care for the "known" bug.

Re: Feature Request: Consistent Dialog Placement
It's been over three years since the topic cited above, and this still isn't fixed.
I understand triage, but this sort of bug is the sort that should embarrass you into getting it fixed. I'll give you a hint: it even records the (bad) info here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SourceGear\Vault\Client\Settings
VsipCommitDialog
Maybe a find for that key name will help you find the code to fix?

Re: Feature Request: Consistent Dialog Placement
I see that this is addressed in the new build "Fixed problem where Vault dialogs would move down or across a display when the Windows Taskbar was positioned at the top or left of the display.". I will let you know how it works for me after we upgrade here. Thank you very much for looking into this.
