Issue with Fortress (Both V/S client and Fortress Client)

Post by waldenrt » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:00 pm

I had a developer whose V/S instance shutdown unexpectantly. Once he restarted V/S, he is getting the following error from Fortress:

There was an error generating the XML document.

This is occurring with both the V/S Enhanced client and the native client. He has rebooted his dev environment and still gets the same error. Any thoughts on what this could be and how to resolve (I was thinking of clearing his cache but wanted to wait until I hear back from y'all).

Is this strictly limited to this user/machine? Are other users working with no issues?

If so, then a reasonable next step would be to clear the client side cache.

Close any open clients first.

Hi Linda,

That partially worked. His native Fotress client is now working but he is still getting that error when starting up the enhanced client in VS 2005. Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Richard

You could try doing a Get latest with Overwrite or better yet, set a new working directory and re-fetch the project. Let me know if this does not resolve the problem.

We tried that but it still didn't work. I now have another developer that is experiencing this issue with VS 2008 and the enhanced client. Is there something I can turn on at the desktop level for additional logging?

Bumping this issue again. This is starting to mushroom, now a 3rd developer is experiencing this issue.

Could you look in the server log located at C:\Windows\temp\sgvault\sgvault.log and see if any errors are logged there?

If not, then logging is turned on in VS by going to Tools - Options - Source Control - Integration options and checking the box next to diagnostic logging.

Have any changes been checked in since this started?

I just looked at the logs and nothing has posted in there since the 14th. I'll have the developers turn on the logging and see what that shows. I'm pretty much stumped on this one.

where will the diagnostic file be written out to on the desktops? Also in the Temp directory?

The log will be in the user's temp directory.

This might be a little easier if I could take a closer look. Could you send an email to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum thread?
