Installation Problem - SQL connection failed
Hi all,
I m trying to install vault on a brand new windows 2003 64 bit server. Configured the box as I did before. But I got this error msg for the " Connect to SQL server" installation part.
The error says " SQL connection failed. unable to connect to sql. The type initializer for "system.data.sqlclient.sqlconnection" threw an exception."
I believe the SQL server 2005 express is configured probaly since i can connect to it from a remote location, I also used 'servername'\SQLEXPRESS as the SQL server name.
I also tried to install ODBC, reinstall IIS, .net, but none of them works.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
Thanks a lot.
Dave

What version of Vault are you installing? Are you using the Vault 32- or 64-bit installer?
Did you choose SQL Server authentication or Windows Authentication for your SQL Server setup durign the installation?
Is SQL Server on the same machine or a different machine than the Vault Server?

Re: Installation Problem - SQL connection failed
I tried both 32 bit and 64 bit installer, same result. I choose mix authentication for the SQL server, from remote and local location, I can connect to SQL server express 2005 with both SQL and windows login. SQl server is in the same server as the vault server.
"The type initializer for "system.data.sqlclient.sqlconnection" threw an exception."" looks like a .net error to me, I re installed .net framework few times, but still doesnt help.
Thanks.
Regards.

What version of Vault are you installing? If you are installing Vault 4.1.4 it takes extra configuration.

Is the SQL Server machine on the same machine as the Vault Server or a different machine?
Send me a copy of the Vault Server installation log. It's called Vault_install.log and is in your user's temp directory on the server machine.
Send the log zipped up to support at sourcegear.com, Attn: Linda. Please include a link to this forum post.

I cant find any files named Vault_install.log, are you sure about the file name?
Re: Installation Problem - SQL connection failed
Yes, that's the right name. It's generally in the temp directory of the user who installed Vault. Type %temp% in an address bar and it will take you there. Sometimes the log isn't created.
Do you have a Vault Server log? It's called sgvault.log and is in %windir%\temp\sgvault on the server machine.
