Import Failed with:[Object reference not set to an instance

Post by peterbrown05 » Fri Dec 04, 2009 9:25 am

Hi,
I successfully exported part of our repository, and wanted to re-import it into a new location in Vault.
I have done this before without problems.

This time, I decided NOT to maintain the deleted items, (and i wonder if the failure is related?) Anyway, the import operation failed after about 3 hours. The following is an extract from the FolderExport/UImportLog.txt

04/12/2009 14:54:06 <generic>: [<No Name>:2996] Folder Import: Importing Transaction for bill.smith on 04/09/2008 19:15:29 TxID = 300218

04/12/2009 14:54:09 <generic>: [<No Name>:2996] Folder Import: An exception occurred during Import Folder creation in ProcessResults_ProcessTransaction(): 300219 on 04/09/2008 19:15:43

Change Set Items (Pin) $/TheSoftware/Source/Libraries/src/PBSui
Imported Change Set - 300219 on 04/09/2008 19:15:43
Change Set Items [Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
04/12/2009 14:59:56 <generic>: [<No Name>:2996] Folder Import: Closing the Import Dialog with Dialog Result: Cancel
04/12/2009 14:59:57 <generic>: [<No Name>:2996] Folder Import: ## FOLDER IMPORT END ##
04/12/2009 15:00:15 <generic>: [<No Name>:2932] SimpleLogger finalized
Can you advise as to what may have caused the failure? Is it related to NOT exporting the deleted items?

Please advise,

Kind Regards

Peter Brown

Does $/TheSoftware/Source/Libraries/src/PBSui exist in your current database?

Is that item shared?

If you right-click the file and select properties, there is a tab that lists share links. If there are entries in the shares tab, then the item is shared. Also, the item or the folder the item is in would have a double arrow to indicate it's shared.

Can you tell me which version of Vault you are using?

Is the item currently still pinned?

it is NOT shared
and it is NOT currently pinned.

using vault 4.1.4 (18402)

(which we have previously used to export/import successfully).

It is possible that something is missing that was in the deleted items. It's hard to tell currently. The easiest way to find out is to perform an export/import and include the deleted items.

Have you ever performed an obliterate on this repository? I have seen a few cases where problems with an obliterate didn't show up during the export, but did during import. Select $ and perform a Show History. When the options window comes up, go to the actions tab and uncheck all except obliterate and click OK. If you get any obliterate entries, then it's highly likely that exporting and importing will fail.

If exporting/importing deleted items doesn't work and there's no obliterates, then we should take this offline to look a bit closer. At that point could you send an email to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum thread?

ok thanks. Ive run a new export overnight last night with the deletes.
Im going back into the office today to try importing that, so hopefully by tomorrow or Monday I will be able to confirm one way or the other.

Thanks for your help,
