Hi everyone,
I am pretty new to source control and have never actually used it. I am a single developer about to embark on a rather large project. I was thinking of using your products as they have gotten great reviews. What I would like to know is if I need both fortress and vault or is fortress like vault+
Also I only have one work PC which has windows 7 ultimate on it. Is it ok to install both the server and the client on the one machine?
Thanks for your time!

You'll be interested in Eric Sink's Source Control HowTo:

Fortress has same the version control tools as Vault, but with integrated item tracking. So you need only Fortress. If you're a single user, you can use Fortress without a license -- for free.
You can install both server and client on the same machine.

Brilliant! great link!
Also I notice in the release notes of vault that it supports 2010 is this the same for fortress, I know VS2010 is still in beta but I want to start using it for lower priority projects to get familiar!

Yes. The source control is the same in Fortress and Vault. So Fortress supports the same Visual Studio versions as Vault.
