How to integrate Vault with existing VS2008 project

Post by carleton » Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:53 pm

I have a VS2008 solution that is already in Vault v4.0.6. VS2008 has the current source control plug-in set to "SourceGear Vault VS2003 Compatible Client". What needs to happen to connect the project in VS2008 with Vault?

If your directory structure is the same in the Vault repository tree as it is for your working folders on disk, you should be able to open your project in Visual Studio and select File->Source Control->Change Source Control. This will give you a dialog where you can bind your working directories to repository folders. When you click "Bind" you'll be able to browse to the repository folder to create the bindings or integration.

You may want to consider upgrading to Vault 4.1.4 and use the Enhanced Client integration. It's a free upgrade for you to 4.1.4. The Enhanced Client (called VS 2005 integration in 4.0) provides a tighter integration with Vault and gives you more features, like the Pending Change Set, Line History, etc. Details here:
