Is there a method to add an email to the Admin user? I'd like to be able to receive notifications when files are checked in etc, but the email field in the user editor is not enabled for editing.

What version of Vault are you using? You should be able to configure an email address for Admin in the Vault Admin Web Client -- but there may be a bug in Vault 5.0. We'll look into it.
However, you can still get email notifications. Log in as Admin with the Vault Client and in the Email tab add your email address. By the way, this will also add the email address to the Admin account.

I've logged bug 14758 to allow the Admin to configure an email address in the Vault Admin Web Client. Meanwhile, users can use the workaround of adding the email address through the Email tab of the GUI Client.
