Vault 3.1.9: Import a repository

Post by SteveFleet » Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:07 am

For historical reasons we have 2 different Vault 3.1.9 repositories on the same server. We'd like to import one of the repositories into the other (complete with history) so that we can use the "Share" feature. Is this possible?

I'm aware of course that I could check out the contents of Repo A and then check it into Repo B, but that would set everything to revision 1.

Thanks in advance.

The Export/Import tool we have didn't come into being until Vault 3.5.

Without that tool, your only option to bring over all of history is to check in each version individually. You would go to the topmost folder, and perform a show history by folder version. The number of versions listed there are the number you need for a complete rebuild of the history. You would get the first one, then check it into the new location. Then get the next folder version and check it in, and so on. If there's only major versions you are concerned about, you can reduce the number you check in by skipping versions.

The easiest way will be to upgrade.

Thank you very much Beth. Is 3.5 a paid or free upgrade from 3.1? Presumably we'd need to upgrade the server too or would upgrading just the clients be enough?

It's a paid upgrade, but I don't know your current licensing situation. Could you send an email to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum thread? Then I can look up your company account and give you more information on your options.
