Is there a way to archive a repository in Vault?

Post by rda » Wed Aug 05, 2009 9:38 am

Hi,

Is there a way to archive a single Vault repository in the same fashion as using the "Archive" option from Visual SourceSafe's admin application?

The only thing I can find that seems remotely similar is the "Backup" option in Vault's admin interface, but this backs up the entire database and it seems to back up on the server only.

SourceSafe's archive allows you to back up a single repository on a local hard drive as a single file (*.ssa file) and restore it later if needs be. Any way to do this in Vault?

Thanks!

You could try the Vault Export/Import tool provided you haven't been using obliterate on that repository. The Export/Import tool installs with the client. You'll find it under your Start Menu. Once it's exported, you can delete the repository. I would recommend performing a test import on a new repository before deleting the old one. I also know of a few customers that keep a small individual Vault server, maybe on an XP machine where they just import stuff they no longer need, but want available somewhere just in case.
