Getting Invalid Username / Password on some machines

Hi,

I'm using Vault Server 4.1.4 along with Vault Client 4.1.4.

I have Vault Server installed on one of our main servers. When I try to connect with a client from my primary computer (WinXP pro), I receive the error: "The username or password supplied is invalid." However, I am able to successfully login with Vault Client using this same username and password from a different machine with no problems. What could be the problem?

That is strange.

Are you using a profile on one of the machines?

Is Caps Lock on?

I'm not using a profile no, and CAPS lock is not on, I actually tried from three different machines in my room at least two-dozen times altogether (one Vista Ultimate, two XP Pro) and I get the same username/pass error on all of them. I have had co-workers try as well, same thing. But on a Vista computer in another room I am able to log on without the username/password error (though logged onto the computer with a different user).

Some additional info:
- We are not using Active Directory for the Vault users, just regular username/pass.
- Took awhile to get to this point. We went through several different errors (including FailDBConn and others) before we got to this point, using troubleshooting pointers found on this site.

Any ideas?

Is it just your Vault user login that fails or can you login as a different Vault user?

If you use that same Windows user account that worked on Vista, can you log into Vault from the machines where the login failed before?

We'd like to see a copy of the Vault Server log it may have some clues. The Vault server log is sgvault.log and is in %windir%\temp\sgvault on the server machine. Send the log zipped up to support at sourcegear.com, Attn: Linda. Please include a link to this forum post.

It seems like it was some sort of permissions issue with our server. We were able to get me logged in by setting me to server admin on the server hosting Vault, and work back from there with permissions. I'm not sure why it was giving a "invalid username/password" error though as this wasn't the case. In any case the problem is now resolved, thanks!

I'm sorry, it seems I spoke too soon -

the setting is actually on the Vault server side, to be able to log on at all without receiving a username/password error, a user must be set to Database Owner. Reader or Writer does not allow log on, giving the username/pass error. I don't really want all my developers to be owners of the database... maybe we're missing some settings or something?

That's strange. Users don't directly access the database. The Vault client connects to the Vault Server which uses a specific Windows or SQL to connect to the database.

Could you reproduce the error and send me a copy of Vault Server log? It's called sgvault.log and is in %windir%\temp\sgvault on the server machine. Also, send me a copy of the Vault web.config file. It's in the Vault Service directory on the Vault Server machine, usually in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot. Send the them zipped up to support at sourcegear.com, Attn: Linda. Please include a link to this forum post.
