Hi,
I have been using MS vss for years and build up some size of a database. 1.6 gigs, 150k files, no clue if that is big or not. I am a developer working alone so falling under the free one user license. I have no problem to pay for a license just fyi.
Installed vault and trying to find my way around. Reading what there is in manuals and reading a bit in the forums.
Imported one project for testing the waters.
I have a few questions.
1) is it possible to have multiple MSSQL databases. This because I have several customers where I have an agreement with that once in a period give them the whole project. But I do not want them to have sources of other customers. So need different databases.
2) I read that I need to keep the VSS database to allow Vault to read history: "The following tips will help your import go as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Once the import is done, you will need to keep your VSS database in the same location, since the Vault server will connect back to it when VSS history information is needed.". I do not want to keep the history, I want all to be in vault. I do not want to keep the vss database active. I only want to move the MSSQL database(s) to my notebook in case I have to do heavy work on site.
3) When importing the vss project I am missing the branch information. Is that not taken over?
Thanks in advance
Peter

Re: Some questions
1) If you need multiple databases, then you would need multiple Vault installations as well. If it's a question of licensing, then contact our sales department at sgstore at sourcegear.com to discuss that. What might also work is to use the export import tool to remove code and your customers could import it into their own Vault installations.
2) Those instructions sound like they are for the new VSS import for Vault 5.0 instead of the one currently in use for Vault 4.1.4. With Vault 4.1.4, the import pulls over the entire history. You will want to see this KB article for important tips: Tips for a Successful VSS Import. The VSS Import Tool for Vault 4.1.4 is available in the same location as the Vault 4.1.4 download: http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/downloads.html.
3) Look in the directory where you installed the VSS import tool for a log on the import. What errors are in that log?
