moving files

Post by joel4370 » Fri May 15, 2009 11:09 am

I have a problem with some files that were moved. A coworker moved some files in visual studio to a folder. The vault reflected his changes when he checked in the files. My vault client does not show the files as having been moved. What do I need to do to get my vault client to show the same folder structure he has? Here is our setup info.

Your client-side cache may be out of sync with the database. See this link for a way to fix this:

I followed the instructions but I am still not seeing the files in the folder he moved them to. I can see the folders he created, but the files are still in the original folder. When I cleared the local cache I followed the first set of instructions leaving the workingFolderAssignments and ChangeSetItems. Any other ideas?

I fixed it by moving the files in my local client. I noticed that on the server it did not reflect the moved files either. So it would appear that there is a bug when you move files from within the Visual Studio. They move fine on the machine you are working on and show that they are moved in the vault client on that machine, but not on the server or on other machines.

What version of Visual Studio are you using? Are you using the Enhanced or Classic Client for integration? It's possible the move never was committed to the server.

We're using visual studio 2008 (V 9.0.21022.8) and we are using the enhanced client. He moved the files then checked everything in and it all worked fine on his machine and looked good in his vault client.

I wasn't able to reproduce this type of problem, but I'm glad, you were able to resolve it.

I didn't realize it earlier but there were 3 files I moved that showed they moved on my machine, but that move did not reflect on the server or on other machines. I think it might have been because someone had it checked out when I moved it. If it doesn't move it on the server though it shouldn't look like it is moved in my vault client though. Maybe something else to test.
Thanks

This can happen if you have auto-commit turned off or if you moved files in Visual Studio and haven't committed them yet. The moves appear to be made in your client, but can't be completed because the files are checked out. You can't move files that are checked out.
