Branch Speed in Vault 4.1.4
We have recently upgraded from vault 4.1.1 to 4.1.4. I noticed that in release notes for 4.1.3 there was mention of performance increases when doing a branch.
For some reason we are seeing performance decreases.
Whenever we release a version of the product we do a branch from label. What we branch is a fairly large project (several hundred MBs)
In 4.1.1 the branch took about 20 minutes, but with 4.1.4 it took 70 minutes.
The time comparisons are between the same branch with only a handful of files being updated between them (around 30), so I think this is a fairly even comparison.
So is there something that could be changed in configuration, or ran on the database, or maybe it works faster when doing branching from label (this could be done in 80% of cases)?
Essentially I am looking for some leads or something to try to be able to bring the time back down to a manageable amount of time.

Re: Branch Speed in Vault 4.1.4
Before we make any recommendations, we'd like to see a copy of the Vault Server log file that covers the time of this branch. The Vault server log is sgvault.log and is in %windir%\temp\sgvault on the server machine. Send the log(s) zipped up to support at sourcegear.com, Attn: Linda. Please include a link to this forum post.

Re: Branch Speed in Vault 4.1.4
This has been fixed by running defragmentation on the drive where the Vault database was. The database file is still fragmented a lot, but the branches now take 5 minutes (compared to original 10 minutes).
Re: Branch Speed in Vault 4.1.4
Thanks for the update. Disk fragmentation can definitely cause performance issues for SQL Server databases. Running regular database maintenance helps, too:

For whatever it's worth, branches used to take us about 10 minutes. But after the upgrade to Vault 4.1.4, that same branch operation now takes about a minute. Kudos to the development team for speeding that up so significantly!
