Multiple Checkouts in VS 2008 ASP.NET C#

Post by scottbutler » Thu Jan 15, 2009 2:06 pm

Hi,

We are working on a project in VS 2008. It is an ASP.NET project. We would like multiple checkouts to work. If we use SourceSafe as the provider, this works fine. However, with the SOS client it does not. The "Allow Multiple Checkouts" flag is checked in the VSS database.

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

BTW - We are using the latest version of SOS Server 3.
Thanks,

Scott Butler

SOS will support VS 2008 in the next version. There is no official support yet. I will see if we can figure this out with the version you have, but it might not be possible.

How are you trying to check out? Is it a case of where you need more than one user to check out a file?

Are you able to perform multiple checkouts using the SOS GUI client?

Hi,

We are not able to do multiple checkouts with the GUI client or the IDE. However, I am able to do it using the Source Safe application.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,

Scott

Can you find an error anywhere? Maybe in your Event Viewer?

Hi,

I get operation failed in the status window of the SOS client. There are no entries in the server log or the server machines event log. If I try to check out the same file with the VSS Explorer, I get the message " The File BusCard.Master is already checked out by another user, continue?" I then click the "Yes" button. It checks out the file and has the following comment in the status window of the VSS Explorer - "Could not checkout local version of $/BizLinc/BizLinc.Web/BusCard/BusCard.Master, checking out latest version instead."

Hope this helps. We really need to get this solved!

Is it possible that you have an old version on disk and have the setting in VSS to only allow a checkout of the latest version?

Could you post a screenshot of the VSS options in the VSS admin tool? Just the first page should be enough.

Hi,

Here is the file. It looks correct to me.

Could you restart your SOS service on the server? Making it reload what settings it has might help.

I just ran a quick test with VS 2008 with SOS and it worked on my setup.

Do you have rights and assignments set up? Could it be that the second user doesn't have the correct rights?

OK - I have reinstalled SOS server, reinstalled VS 6.0D, rebooted the server multiple times, and still the same situations. Is there paid support. This has gone one way too long.

Send an email to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum thread. From there I can take a closer look.
