Backing up modified files

Backing up modified files
Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to copy files that are currently modified to a backup directory?
I imagine this would be most useful as a right-click option in the Pending Change Set panel. Whatever files are selected are copied to some specified (remembered) destination, maintaining the directory structure.

Re: Backing up modified files
I've logged feature request 13914 for this functionality.
Note: If a Get or other operation overwrites a locally modified file, Vault does make a backup and stores it in the .sgvbak folder, which by default is located in the local working folder.

Re: Backing up modified files
Thanks, but note the .sgvbak directory is not what I need. This is about backing up my changes to another disk drive so that if the disk drive crashes I have a backup.
The issue I have is that I can't check the changes in as they have not been unit tested yet and the changes are quite large taking 2 weeks or more. Of course I am backing them up, but its tedious and error prone keeping my backup list in sync with the pending change set.

Understood. The specific functionality you want is not in Vault at this time. I logged a feature request for the abilitly to backup to another disk location. Thanks, but note the .sgvbak directory is not what I need.
Also coming in Vault 5.0 will be a feature called "shelve" which will allow you to store changes in the Vault database without needing to commit them to the production tree.

Re: Backing up modified files
I presume that when you Shelve a set of changes the current state of the working directory gets set back as if the changes had not been made - probably back to the baseline or maybe the tip. As I actually need to continue working on the files I don't think that Shelve will meet my need. (I've read the Shelve blog)

Re: Backing up modified files
Actually, you'll have a choice to undo the changes in your working folder or leave them there when you perform the shelve.
Re: Backing up modified files
In that case Shelve may meet my need. I presume overwriting a Shelve is easy to do?

Re: Backing up modified files
Absolutely, you'll just give it the same name and we'll ask if you want to replace the old shelveset with the new shelveset.
