Graphical File History?

Post by robe070 » Mon Oct 27, 2008 10:28 pm

Hi,

We have been twisting various features of Vault in order to try and retain file history in one place. E.g. When a branch is performed the historical connection is severed - Vault does not know the connection.

So we've tried various sharing and pinning options but none are very satisfactory. I could go into various enhancements to sharing and pinning but its really still a cludge for what we really want - Graphical File History. We want to see all the versions of a File with branches and merges in one view. All the clutter removed. Just a small icon, the Item Version and the change set comment and various kinds of lines to indicate the next version and branches and merges. If a Branch is using the same version as the Trunk, say, the Trunk version is annotated with the Branch name.

Without this and with even 3 or 4 branches, putting together what order the changes have occurred and what branch is using which version is time consuming and error prone.

How about adding this as a feature request?

We recognize the pain users are having tracking changes between branches now. We're working on ways of making this easier. I've added your vote to our feature request for this.
