Vault "Commit All" in Eclipse

Post by psypher » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:24 am

On some occassions when having multiple items checked out in Flex Builder, when you click the "Commit All" button in the "Pending Change Set" window, a file will fail to update on the server and be marked as checked in.

When this occurs, Flex Builder will prompt you saying, "A file has changed on the drive, would you like to reload" or something to that effect. A nice, obscure message since it doesn't tell you which file has changed and since I usually have 10+ files open in the project, you can imagine the issue. Takes a recompile to determine which file has changed and then you need to select and copy the entire file else Flex just marks the view as having been changed on the file system so you cannot edit it.

Just a heads up.

Vault is a great product and I recommend it to everyone needing a good source control system. Keep up the great work.

What version of the plugin are you using and what version of FlexBuilder? Does this happen with a specific kind of file or just random? Are you working VSS style (i.e. require checkout before checkin)? I'm not sure I understand this statement: "Flex just marks the view as having been changed on the file system so you cannot edit it." Can you explain more?

Sorry about the obscure message, unfortunately that's FlexBuilder's message and not our's.

Vault 4.1.3.18336

Flex 3.0.205647

This situation happened before when you gave me a link to a pre-release version. About 1 month ago or so. I installed this new version yesterday so perhaps this problem doesn't exist anymore.

Probably shouldn't have posted this unless the problem reoccurs...

Random. I only edit .AS files inside Flex Builder.

Yep

This is a Flex thing too. It's not a Vault issue.

Aye. :)

Ok, well, we haven't had any other reports of this. If it happens with the new version, go ahead and post with as much information as you can and we'll track down what's happening.

Well, my changes I did and checked into Vault reported successful from my work machine. When I got home, my changes were not there. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. It seems like Commit All sometimes doesn't update the server for some reason even though it's reporting successful in the "Console" window in Flex. It's beginning to annoy me.

I'm resorting to wiping the entry in vault and adding the entire project now. My work is 50 miles away so I cannot just hop in the car and drive over there to update the files in Vault that didn't get updated.

Newest version of Flex Builder.
Newest version of Vault Eclipse Client.
Server is a patch behind I believe.

Can you send me your log files? The Vault log file for Eclipse is located here: %TEMP%/VaultEclipseLog. I think your flex log should be in the same place an Eclipse error log would normally be: <your workspace>/.metadata/.log

I'd like you to check a setting for me...under Preferences->Vault->Check In, what is Check in unchanged files set to?

Ok, this issue with the Flex Builder Vault integration project still is cropping up about once a week for me.

I have the latest Flex Builder, we upgraded the Vault Service to the latest build last week, have the latest Vault integrated client also.

Have about 10-15 files checked out in Vault thru the integrated application and do a "Commit All" in the "Pending Changes" tab in Flex Builder.

Sometimes I have multiple files checked out in different projects.

Files are checked in but one is sometimes being rolled-back to the version that is stored in Vault even though I have made significant modifications to it. It only happens to a single file, which seems odd. I'll keep an eye on where it appears in the list of checkin items to see if that is related.

Thank you.

The information I asked for in my last two posts might still be useful, if you could provide it:

Also, when you go to do a check in for that file, what status is it showing in the pending changes?

We took this offline a little with logs and such.....I've given the user a pre-release build of 4.1.5 that I think should remedy the problem. The changes will be included in the upcoming 5.0 release, as well.
