Upgrade to 4.1.3 a disaster

Post by gsmalter » Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:07 pm

I just tried to upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.1.3 x64 on our server, and got this in the progress window:

---
Checking permissions on local folders...OK
Adding permissions for temporary asp.net files...
Ok
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Vault Upgrade Setup is exiting due to a failure or cancellation. Error Code = -1001
After pressing [OK] the install will complete and launch a Web browser where you can enter license keys. Please log in with the user name and password that you supplied during this install.

Then, it said it had failed and had rolled everything back and had not changed my system at all. Except, now nobody can connect to Vault. I have neither the new version nor the old version working.
---

What do I do now?

Do you have the 1.1 .NET and/or 2.0 .NET framework on this machine? It looks like it might be failing right at the point that it goes to find the .NET frameworks. What other frameworks are installed on this system?

Could you either post or send me your entire install log? Vault_install.log is in %username%\local settings\temp. If you prefer to send it, then send it to support at sourcegear.com, attn: Beth, with a link to this forum thread.

The fastest way to get running again will probably be to uninstall and reinstall Vault 4.1.2. I would prefer though to find out what happened so that I can get you upgraded to Vault 4.1.3.

Do you have the Vault_Install.log from the failed install? (It should be in your %temp% directory)? That may help determine what went wrong. If so, please email it to me directly using the email button at the side of the post.

Are you using IIS 6 or IIS 7?

I have already emailed the file directly to Beth as a result me calling in, but here is the log for everyone to see.

This seems to be is specific to IIS 7 (without IIS 6 compatability turned on). You should be able to get around the issue one of two ways:

- add string value called WebSite in your registry under the Vault Server folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SourceGear\Vault Server\WebSite and set its value to IIS://LocalHost/W3SVC/1/Root (or probably anything that isn't null -IIS 7 in integrated mode doesn't use this value) then install 4.1.3

- Uninstall 4.1.2 then install 4.1.3. I tested the fresh install with IIS 7 in integrated mode and it worked fine.

This problem was resolved by uninstalling 4.1.2 and re-installing 4.1.3 fresh.
