When will we be able to copy a label

Post by edj » Thu Sep 11, 2008 5:26 pm

Hi

I have asked this question before, and got my answers more than a year ago (http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic ... &sk=t&sd=a). But I still really really miss this feature. I have just spent three hours making a copy of a label by making a new label and then using "promotion" to downgrade all the changed files except for the one, that shuold differ from the original label.

If I had been able to copy the original label, and then promete this one file, the operation could have been done in one minute.

Please, - when is this (to me) simple feature going to be implemented?

Allso, please make some kind of log for the promotions. At the moment you can only see the number of changes made. And that number is really worth nothing. The number of changes only shows how many times you have promoted one or more files, - not the number of files promoted.

TIA

We have not yet implemented the ability to copy a label or label a label.

I think you should be able to do what you need by using additional labels. For instance when your release is ready, label it 4.0.

Make the change to the file for the next release. Then label the folder 4.0.0.1.

Be sure you fill out the comments section before you commit the label. Your comment would contain information about what was changed.

Then, you will be able to get label 4.0 or label 4.0.0.1. When you show labels, you can diff the two labels to see what files are different.

If you make comments with every label, you can get a report by doing a history query and filtering by the action Label, and Comments. You can save the query results as a text file and you'll have a report of all your labels and what was changed.

We will still maintain your original feature requests, but until they are implemented, this workaround might help you.
