Cannot Log In

Post by MattK » Tue Sep 02, 2008 10:51 am

I installed the latest version of Fortress last week to try the free single user mode for a while before our entire team adopts it. I didn't enter a serial # as instructed and now Tuesday AM I cannot log in from the client standpoint. I can log in on the source server using the following URL:

http://localhost/VaultService/VaultWeb/Default.aspx

But I cannot log in by using the machine name (ie http://server_name/VaultService/VaultWeb/Default.aspx) while on the machine, nor can I log in using the Fortress client from a desktop. I could previously log in using the Fortress client from a desktop when I installed the software.

The Fortress web interface reports the following:

Number of full user licenses: 0
Number of web-only user licenses: 0
Number of active full users: 0
Number of active web-only users: 0

Do I need to obtain a serial? Why would the log in stop working after a few days? Is this software a 30-day evaluation or free for a single user? Sourcegear.com's homepage says it is free for a single user. I am looking to evaluate fortress for more than 30 days.

Edit:

I just tried getting a DEMO key, added it to the licenses setting and still no dice.
Thanks.

It sounds like that information didn't load right. Close all Fortress clients, including Visual Studio. Then remove the demo serial number. Next perform an iisreset on your server by going to Start - Run and typing iisreset. Then open a Fortress client and try to log in again.

You are correct that it is free for a single user.

I tried your suggestion and I still get this error from the Fortress client on a desktop.

Unable to connect to http://server_name/VaultService. No server was found at the specified URL. Please verify your network settings using the Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client. Web Exception: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

"server_name" is of the machine name.

Does the Fortress client have to be installed on the server for the single-user mode to work? I am running it from a desktop and I also cannot access the web panel via IE:

http://server_name/VaultService/VaultWeb/Default.aspx <- This gives me a windows user/pass prompt instead of the Fortress login page.

I have also tried installing the Fortress client on the server with no serial in the Fortress web admin and I can sign into the web admin panel but not using the Fortress client. Thanks.

I think that this KB article may help you:

http://kb.sourcegear.com/VaultHelp/erro ... p?code=401

You most likely need to make sure that Anonymous Access is enabled for the VaultService directory.
