Administrative access required for export

I am preparing to use a Vault hosting service that does not provide adminstrative access to customers.

It appears that this precludes using the Import/Export utility. Am I missing something?

I could use more information about what you are trying to do.

Do you have multiple repositories in your Vault database, and you want to export items from one repository to another?

Or do you want to do an import to or export from your repository that is hosted?

I have done some exports from our local vault host, which is going away. I want to import them into a hosted service, where none of our users will have Vault admin privileges (because it's shared with other customers).

The only option right now is to FTP them the exported files so they can import them. This will be rather tedious, and I'm not comfortable that I will not be able to do exports of our history from their service in the future.

When you start the Import/Export Folder utility, you first log in to the Vault server. If the Vault user you specify only has "Access" permission (not an Admin) then you get a message "Only admin users can perform the requested operation." This is before you have selected a repository.

Yes, it looks like there are limitations if you don't have Admin access.

If you have a repository on a hosted Vault database, there are limitations if you don't have Admin access. Even repository Admins can't use the Export\Import tool. I'll add a feature request to allow repository admins to Export and Import.

If you have an entire Vault database being hosted, you could have the provider send you a copy of the database from time to time and you could install Vault locally on a test machine and export.
