Their is one big problem with Vault integration compare to SourceSafe.
The vault client does not create the needed SCC files.
The only way we found to correctly open a project under Visual Studio source control with Vault is using the build in IDE "Open from source control"... and this is complicating the process and prone to user errors.
Can Vault client work like the Source Safe client and created the needed SCC files?
Thanks,
Stephan

Unfortunately, our standalone client doesn't currently create those IDE files (which are used only by the IDE), so yes, you have to do an Open From Source Control the first time you use a project on a machine. After that, you shouldn't have to use the standalone client.
