We're about to move a lot more stuff to Vault, stuff that has, up to now, been "managed" using the file system alone.
Obviously, we're going to need some more licences. However, we have some people whose job requires read-only access to the source, for research purposes. Clearly, it's not cost-effective for us to buy a full licence for each of these users.
One option (and not my favourite, I should add) is to make someone with a full access licence responsible for providing a read-only copy of sources on demand on the file system. Another option is to provide some sort of access wherein a user can, for example, view the current and historical versions of a file, carry out diffs between version etc.
The question is, do you/can you provide a licensing model that allows that kind of access? From my POV, it would be nice if, for example, simply setting up a user (using the web admin tool) with R rights didn't consume a licence at all!

We don't have web-only or read-only licenses for Vault. Everyone that has access to Vault must have a license.
If users aren't making modifications to the repository folders/files (thus you don't need to track changes by user), you could create a shared "guest" login with R rights that multiple non-developers could use.

Thanks for such a quick reply.
Would there be any problems with 2 users on different machines logging in at the same time using this guest account? If users aren't making modifications to the repository folders/files (thus you don't need to track changes by user), you could create a shared "guest" login with R rights that multiple non-developers could use.
