Vault commit checksum problem...plus can't upgrade

Post by alovhaug » Fri Jun 06, 2008 4:01 pm

I am currently using Vault in single user mode. I have been using it for years without incident. (Thanks! Great product!) I am using version 4.1.1.8060 for a week or two (on Windows 2003 Server 32x).

Today, however, I am having a bad Vault day. First, I have a couple of files that I am unable to check into Vault. The error I get is:

VaultFileUpload.aspx encountered: FailFileInvalidCheckSum

It is not on all files, just a couple of them.

Thinking that perhaps this was a problem that was fixed by the last build, I figured I would try installing the 4.1.2.18185. So, I backed up my database and tried to install the msi. I made my way through all the prompts, but when it tries to actually install I get: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I don't see any information in the release notes that would suggest to me that there was some kind of new requirement that wasn't there previously.

Suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

The times I've seen that error were a case of where the .msi was not copied over to the installation machine correctly. Usually just downloading it from our site directly to the install machine will take care of that. Try that first, and if it doesn't then let me know.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried both downloading directly to that server (which I had done before) and to a seperate machine and copying it over (to a new location each time). Unfortunately, I'm still seeing the same error.

Additional information: It appears the problem with the installation is actually happening during the uninstall, because I get the same error if I try to uninstall.

There is good news and bad news. The good news is that after much fiddling, I was able to get the latest version (4.1.2 (18185)) installed on both the client and the server. [For those who might have a similar problem...I can't give you complete steps for resolving that, but I can tell you that it involved trying to install the MSI via a command line and creating a log file to try to troubleshoot.]

The bad news is that it has not completely corrected the original problem. I still have 1 file that won't commit. When I try, I get the error: "The server returned an unknown error header: FailFileInvalidCheckSum".

This file is a web.config file, so there isn't anything particularly strange about it. I have tried Undo Change and then re-adding my changes (or, frankly, any changes) and I always get the same error.

Suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Nevermind. After following the advice in this thread, I was able to resolve the problem.
