vs2008 - no 'enhanced client' available

Post by GuyH » Fri Mar 21, 2008 5:03 am

I have installed vault server 4.10 that includes vault client on my pc

in vs2005 i can use the enhanced client but in vs2008 it is not available

i have either 'vault classic' or 'none'

why is this?

how do i register it into vs2008

If you installed VS 2008 after Vault, then Vault isn't registered with VS 2008 in the registry. You need to uninstall and reinstall Vault so that it hits the VS 2008 section of the registry. This shouldn't affect anything other than taking about 2-3 minutes to perform.

i installed vault server 4.10 (with client included) after i had installed vs2008.

i did a reinstall but still nothing.

it simply ignores vs2008

so then i did a complete uninstall of the server, reinstall, nothing.

there are also 2 entries in the add/remove for vault client - one is for version 4.06 the other is 4.10

if i try and install the client package it says 'admin policies prevent this'

i tried to use cCleaner to remove the entries in add/remove but i get an error about access denied!

i also did a registry clean and reinstall of vault server, again, nothing.

what should i do?

Open the Vault client, go to Tools - Options - General and set Vault as your default SCC provider. Try this first, and if doesn't work, then continue to the next paragraph.

It sounds like the 4.0 client was installed before you installed the 4.1 server with client. In this kind of situation, it may make more sense to not install the 4.1 client with the server, but install it separately like you did with 4.0.6. Try uninstalling 4.1, then 4.0.6, then install just the 4.1 server without the client. Then install just the 4.1 client alone.

here is what happened...

4.06 would not uninstall - even when i redownloaded both the client and admin installers for that version and tried repair/remove etc..

I ended up having to remove everything, then search the registry and manually remove all items relating to windows installer and sourcegear.

once i did this the 4.06 item no longer appeared in the add/remove list.

so now i could install 4.10 client, then 4.10 server.

why did all this happen? looking back to when i first upgraded to 4.10 server i remember that the client part of the install threw an error but still finished - my server was working so i left it. i wasnt going to be needing to use the client on that machine for a while anyway.

so when that error blew it must have stopped it midway from removing 4.06 which is why it was still in my add/remove list.

at least its sorted now.
