I renamed some files (via the VS 2008 IDE), got an "object reference not set" error that was in an infinate loop. I killed the process and upon logging in (both via the IDE and standalone app), I get the following error:
$/Code/ImageAlert/PropertyImages/orbitz_qc__wv14125_b4.jpg already exists.
Clicking OK just clears the message and I cannot login.
This is on Vault 4.1.0.
There are no error messages in my server log file.
Any ideas? thanks!

Clearing your client cache will get things working again.
I recommend leaving the CacheMember_WorkingFolderAssignments file, so you won't have to set those up again.
After doing this, you'll have to redo any renames that weren't checked in. Because the working files will already be physically renamed, I'd recommend getting them sorted out in the stand-alone client rather than Visual Studio.
