Server-side storage of preferences?

Post by gsmalter » Tue Mar 11, 2008 8:00 am

We have a developer who keeps losing all of his preferences. Most annoyingly, his client keeps going back to Check out everything Exclusively mode.

I don't know what is causing this, and fixing it would be nice, but even better would be to store preferences on the server and even allow those preferences to be shared/enforced amongst all developers instead of letting everyone make their own choice.

What version of Vault are you using?

I can put in a feature request to store user settings on the server and/or to have the Admin set global user settings, as well as troubleshooting here to get your user working correctly.

Also, can you look in your admin tool or webpage to see what the setting for exclusive checkouts the admin has set? The admin can require users to have exclusive checkouts I believe.

One more point to add is that binary files are always exclusively checked out.

The server is set to allow non-exclusive checkouts. I have it working fine on my end.

I added our Vault info to my signature so I shouldn't forget it anymore.

What types of files end up with an exclusive check out?

Can you reproduce it with a .txt. file?

.cs files, project files. The problem is not whether we have them set as mergeable or not. I can check these types of files out fine. And so can he. It's just that periodically I notice that he has them exclusively, and he goes into his Vault settings and notices that the Always Request Exclusive locks option has reverted to its default value.

He has also noticed that dialogs that he has silenced periodically start showing up again. It just looks like his settings get lost from time to time.

Why I asked so much about the exclusive checkouts is that particular item is affected by other settings or how files check out is affected by other factors.

Could you give me a list of several items beside exclusive checkouts that seem to get lost?

Some settings are stored in the Vault database and some in the user's registry. I need to pinpoint which set of settings are affected.
