Look in your SourceSafe Admin client (SSADMIN.exe) under Tools->Options->General. Is "Use Netwrok name for automatic user login" enabled?

If so, then VSS is using the actual VSS credentials of the account used by the SOS Server service. You could try disabling this, though users would then have to login to VSS with specific VSS usernames and passwords.

Our company policies do not allow us to disable this. In fact, that is why we need to have each user added to SOS to be able to temporarily start the SOS service under their own credentials, so that they can set the password in the SOS client to their password and then set it back to Local System. At least, that was what we used to do until we upgraded SOS. However now we can't start the service with Local System or to any other user's domain account except to a user who has full VSS admin rights.

Thanks,
Karin
