Hi,
I couldn't find this topic anywhere in the forums; if someone has answered it previously, just point me to it.
At the risk of getting harrassed over this, I'm curious if anyone has any experience running the Vault server on WinXP. And YES I do know that the supported OS versions for Vault are Windows 2000/2003 Server.
I'm a consultant who does significant amounts of my work onsite. Some of my clients don't have the best infrastructure in terms of connectivity. As such, I can't always rely on having access to my main server at the office for access to my source code repository.
I have successfully installed the Vault Server on my Win XP laptop. I'm about to start moving my stuff from VSS to Vault. Anyone have any solid experience with this setup, good, bad or indifferent? Now's the time to decide NOT to do this if it's not a good idea.
If this isn't a good idea, my only other option is to repave the laptop with W2K3 Server, which I may reluctantly decide to do.
Thanks in advance!
Chris

The Vault web site states: Operating system of Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3) or above.wchrisjohnson wrote:I'm curious if anyone has any experience running the Vault server on WinXP... And YES I do know that the supported OS versions for Vault are Windows 2000/2003 Server.
This would include Windows XP, although you should make sure you are using Win XP Professional.

Vault will run fine on Windows XP. Most of the SourceGear coders develop, test, and debug it on Windows XP, with some Windows 2000 and 2003 machines thrown in for variety. Vault's server requires four basic things that don't come standard with everyone's operating system: IIS 5.0 or later, .NET framework 1.1, a connection to a SQL Server instance, and the Windows crypto components we use (should be available in all countries except Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria). The installer may impose a few more restrictions, but these are the basics.
