VS2008 confusion

Post by pauldeen » Thu Dec 27, 2007 5:15 am

Hello,

You state in your press release (http://www.sourcegear.com/news/VaultPR06-07.html) that Vault 4.0 will support VS2008, so I went ahead and bought Vault on this understanding. However, now I'm seeing support for VS2008 comes only in Vault 4.1. Have I been mislead into thinking I will have support for VS2008? Am I expected now to pay for an upgrade? I did not buy Gold support as Vault appeared to do everything I needed.

As an aside, there's this link:
http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/releases/4.1b.html about the 4.1 release.

"Visual Studio 2008 Support. This beta is the first release to support Visual Studio 2008. "

This conflicts with your press release?

From the Press Release... "This client plugin supports Visual Studio 2005 and will support Visual Studio 2008 upon its release."

Visual Studio 2008 (VS 2008) is scheduled for release on February 27, 2008.

Vault 4.0 currently supports VS 2008 through the MSSCCI based IDE client. With the impending release of Vault 4.1 (which is a free upgrade for licensed Vault 4.0 users), full support will be added for the VSIP based IDE client within VS 2008.

The beta announcement should change the phrase, "(t)his beta is the first release to support Visual Studio 2008 with the VSIP IDE client".

Hi Jeff, thanks for clarifying this. Curiously, I was under the impression VS2008 was already released, it's available on my MSDN subscription?

"In anticipation for the most significant Microsoft enterprise event in the next year, Turner announced that Windows Server® 2008, Visual Studio® 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server™ 2008 will launch together at an event in Los Angeles on Feb. 27, 2008" - http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/pres ... ersPR.mspx

Also note, at this point in time, VS 2008 is available to users through MSDN subscriptions, but not officially released to the general public.
