Setting Version Number

Post by CCRussell » Wed Dec 19, 2007 10:43 pm

If I add a project to Vault that has been going on for awhile, so it is at (let's say) Version 3, how do I set that version number when I add the project?

The version number that is listed in Vault is the number of versions or revisions an item has went through in Vault. To set your own, you may want to look at using labels to track your own versions, especially if you want the full project versions tracked. For example, after you add the project, in Vault, select the highest level folder that holds the project and label that as version 3 or 3.0.0, or however you prefer. Then, when you feel your entire project is ready to be either 3.1 or 4.0, you would apply another label to that folder. A label makes a good bookmark for the state of a project at any point in time.

If you want to have some kind of tag for every check in, then you will want to consider use of comments during the check in.
