Demo Install login failure

Post by Mundo » Tue Nov 13, 2007 10:40 am

I'm having trouble getting past the login for the 4.0.5 server install on a test server. I'm running win2k3, IIS 6, SQL Server 2005. During the install I get a request to select the IIS process model account, but I cannot figure out which one of the 3 suggestions I should select. I tried this page for help http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/support ... model.html but the advice
Look for the account used to run the process model
didn't seem to match anything in IIS Manager (Is this what it means by Internet Information Administrator?). I'm installing the virtual directory in the Default Web Site, as suggested. Should this web site have the "Enable anonymous access" check box ticked? I'm assuming yes.

Anyway, when I get right to the end of the install and am expecting to be asked for the demo serial number, I get to a Vault login web page asking for the "admin" username and password that I supplied during the install. This just fails to login. I've tried "admin" and "Admin" for the username. Do I need to check security settings on the database in SQL Server? So far I'm not impressed with this product or documentation and won't be buying it. If I can't get anywhere with it I'll have to go to VSS.

The process model used by IIS 6 can be determined by opening Internet Information Services Manager (Control Panel->Admin Tools), right clicking on Application Pool, and selecting Properties->Identity.

This account is usually Network Service, and it's the default account in the Vault installer for the IIS process model.

The Admin login issue may or may not be related.

Can you launch a Vault GUI Client and log in as Admin? (The Admin user doesn't need a license.)

Thanks for your prompt reply Linda. I apologise for the tone of my first post. I was tired and frustrated at the end of a long day, but that's still no excuse. Soon after I posted it, using trial and error uninstall and install sequences, I managed to get it to work. After seeing your instructions in your reply, I can see now how easy it was to get the settings right. It is not clear to me, however, from the help pages how to do this. This page for example suggests using the account under which IIS runs ASP, which may be correct, but sent me searching in the wrong place for the information. http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/support/install3.html

Anyway, I've successfully installed it now and am looking forward to a fruitful 30 day trial, and hopefully a purchase of the full licence. Thank you for your help and sorry to sound so grumpy in my initial post. Your prompt and helpful reply has certainly made me feel more confident in the product.

Glad Vault is working for you now. We'll review the installation guide and try to make it a little more clear.

Let us know if you encounter any difficulty during the demo period.
