Vault 2.0.4 and SQL Server 2005 ?

Post by rtwele » Mon Nov 12, 2007 6:53 am

Hi, we are currently running Vault 2.0.4 with IIS and SQL 2000 on two different machines, both Windows 2000 Server. The IIS machine is outside the firewall, the SQL server machine inside. We would like to move to new servers with SQL 2005 and Windows 2003 Server. Does Vault 2.0.4 work in this environment?

Vault 2.0.x is not supported with the 2.0 .NET framework nor SQL 2005. I think Windows 2003 should be fine. SQL 2005 and the 2.0 .NET framework were not supported until Vault 3.1.

If you haven't been carrying Gold Support, you can still at least upgrade to Vault 2.0.6 for free. It's available on our downloads page under previous versions. It still doesn't support what you are wanting to go to, but in the environment you currently have you could benefit from some of the improvements.

If you haven't been carrying Support, then you may wish to talk to our sales department to get an estimate for the cost of an upgrade.

Thanks for your fast reply. Does "not supported" mean "it doesn't work" or does it mean "try it, but don't blame us if you run into problems"? I mean, do you know of any showstopper?

I'm pretty positive that if the 2.0 .NET framework is on the same system that you have the potential to get a messed up database. That part I would call a show-stopper.

As for SQL 2005, I'm not so sure. I believe it wasn't tested. I thought that version installs the 2.0 .NET framework, so that might be something to watch for.

Thanks a lot. We'll have to discuss internally how to proceed.

When you are ready to move forward in whatever fashion you choose, feel free to send an email to support at sourcegear.com with a link to this thread and we can help you along step by step if needed. If you decide to upgrade, from the old version you are on, you will want to use a special set of instructions that you can get by writing to support.
