A newbie asks ...
If I set a folder in Vault to look to a directory on my HD and I add a file in to the folder, I have to explicitly tell Vault to look for new files. I can kinda understand this but it'd be nice to be able to tell the system that I always wanted it to include new files in the pending changes.
Similarly, if I delete a file locally, I have to find the files in the repository that are 'missing' and explicitly delete them. Why?

In tools->Options->General you can choose to have Vault GUI Client show "ghosted" or non-version controlled files in your working directly.
Regarding the deletes:
If you delete a file from the repository, Vault synchronizes your working folder and deletes the file from the working folder. It doesn't work the other way because on a system with many users, some users may want the file in their working folder and some may not, but it's still in the repository.
If you're using Visual Studio and delete a file from a Visual Studio project, that's reflected in the database on commit.
