Strange Behaviour when files are removed then re-added v4.05

Post by Steve McNally » Tue Oct 30, 2007 7:50 am

Hi all,

Have just upgraded both client and server to v4.05. Having a weird problem here after re-arranging a few projects in Vault which happened after deleting some files then readding them.

In turns out I've deleted and readded one file - GenevaToolsData.vbproj three times as a result. Now when I check that out and try to check back in I get three copies of the same file mentioned in the checkbox list, one after the other.

If I don't manually uncheck at least two of them I get a "DB error" popup box when I go ahead.

If I try and check this file out then back in using VS2005 I just get an error.

What's going on here?

Cheers,

Steve McNally

The times that I've seen this occur was with users doing undo checkouts that aren't occurring correctly. I see many undo's listed in your message pane. How many transactions are sitting in your pending check-in area for that file and what are each one for?

What you have in your screenshot shows changes to that file to be checked in. Not all of those changes may be adds.

Here's a better view

Hi Beth,

No they are unrelated - just to be clear here is me using a fresh instance of Vault.

First picture shows me checking the file out, second checking it back in.
Third shows the error.

Note that the only pending items in the "check in" image are three(???) pending checkins for the same file. After one checkout.

So... still stumped here.

Cheers,

Steve

Just for completeness here's the situation in VS2005.

I only have the one file checked out.

In Vault, can you right click that file and view its properties? Is it shared anywhere? Are any of the folders that house it shared folders?

Hi Beth, don't think it's shared anywhere. The three pending items are all pointing at the same location on my machine.

It's a file I just created in that (local) folder. First I deleted it because of a mistake in my planning - so I remoevd it from Vault.

Then I recreated it (deciding I needed it after all) and dragged the project folder from File Explorer into Vault under my freshly cleared GenevaTools1 soultion folder.

Then seeing I had two of the same file to check in I tried to delete it again and re-add - to see if that cleared the problem. At that point I started getting three files in the check out dialogue, and it's been like that ever since!

It all happened in the space of a few minutes, just between my PC and our Vault server - no other users were involved. It's a weird one.

Is there a scenario where the file could be checked out to three locations then need to come back in from all three?

Would help me understand the problem a bit, if so.

Sorry my attachments are making this post so wide!

Regards,

Steve

P.S. I should mention that if I uncheck two of the boxes in the check-in dialogue it then works fine, so we have a workaround. Any chance of a patch for this issue though?

Can you send me an email at support at sourcegear.com with a link to this forum thread? I think I need a closer look to figure this one out.
