Working offline

Post by Gary_Berg » Thu Oct 25, 2007 1:18 pm

What if I'm using Vault 4.0.4, I've got everything checked out that I need to work on in VS2005 (using the VS2005 client, not the VS2003 client). And my internet connection fails (or just isn't around when I want to start VS2005)? What happens? One of my developers said it took him 20 minutes to get VS2005 started because it kept trying to check all the files.

He just wanted to work on files he already had checked out to this machine.

What's the best way to work this? Anything in particular to do up front before starting VS2005?

What about the way the VS2005 client seems to randomly want to check out project files to make "meaningless" changes?

If you're using VS 2005 style integration you can work offline. Open your project in Visual Studio, right click on the solution and select Offline. The project will behave as if it were unbound. Then when you have connectivity again, rightclick and choose Online.

I'd suggest upgrading to Vault 4.0.5, which was released today. It has a number of Visual Studio 2005 fixes.

Of course the first step is to get VS open to work offline.

Vault 4.0.5 was released from beta today? Have you got a link as to what I need to do as both an end-user and as the person maintaining the server?

Actually, I think I'm tempted to wait at least a couple of days to avoid some of the arrows in my back <G>...
