4.0.x Feature request: Indication of offline mode (VS2005)

Post by gmagana » Wed Oct 17, 2007 4:12 pm

Here's one that threw us way off (and still does sometimes): When one is working in offline mode, the Vault/Fortress icons disappear. The problem is that it looks exactly as if the solution was not bound to source control. This might send people off in a panic thinking that somehow the solution is not under source control anymore. It is not much of a problem if the user just selected "Offline" from the right click menu, the problem comes when the user went offline, went to sleep, and tries to open the solution again: There are not login prompts, no Vault/Fortress icons on the files, and in general there is no indication at all that the solution is still bound to Vault/Fortress but is in offline mode.

So the feature request is just that there be some indication that the solution is in offline mode and not unbound from the version control.

I'll second this, and so will the other developer I work with. We have both been caught by this and had a few moments of panic and even a frantic phone call.

Is it safe to assume that both of you ran into this with the VSIP client (VS 2005 client)? Or is this with the MCSCCI client (VS 2003 compatible client).

We've had this problem too. Unfortunately it won't make 4.0.5, but this is definitely in the queue.

++ to this.

I too spent about a half hour figuring this one out. I know now what to look for, but some kind of indication might help others in the future.
