Installed Vault 4.0.4, cannot login and no error

Post by Kem » Mon Oct 15, 2007 3:11 pm

After installing Vault 4.0.4 (trial), I cannot login using the admin userid. No error message is returning, only the Vault Login screen is being displayed. If I enter an invalid user name and/or password I do receive an error message. I have tried to login after rebooting. I have not gotten to the point of being able to enter my demo serial number.

I am attempting to run server and client on my PC using SQLExpress. Op system: XP Pro SP2. .Net 1.0 thru 3.0 is installed on PC.

What URL is it pointed to?

Can you connect from one of the links on Vault Home Page:

http://yourvaultserver/VaultService/VaultWeb/login.aspx

The url: http://it_dh87rb1.sbl.com/VaultService/VaultWeb/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fVaultService%2fAdmin%2fdefault.aspx where it_dh87rb1.sbl.com is my local pc. Same results when I use the url you suggested.

Can you connect with the Vault GUI Client?

Any error in the Vault server log? It's sgvault.log in %windir%\temp\sgvault.

To your questions:
Q1: Can you connect with the Vault GUI Client?
A1: Yes - Score!!! Using Admin,[password], I added a sample project with some files and that seems to work.

Q2: Any error in the Vault server log? It's sgvault.log in %windir%\temp\sgvault.
A2: Here's what showed up when I tried it again:

----10/16/2007 1:50:09 PM admin--IT_DH87RB1.sbl.com(10.254.15.13)--SSL Disabled Login
----10/16/2007 1:51:48 PM admin--IT_DH87RB1.sbl.com(10.254.15.13)--SSL Disabled Login
However, the login screen continues to be displayed w/o any kind of message.

What about connecting from a web browser on the server machine, using localhost for the Vault Server name? Or how about using the machine IP address instead?

Interesting, using localhost works. I thought I had tried that approach before but having tried several things, I must have overlooked the obvious one.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I'm cooking now.

Tried all the above, and I am still having the same problem!

installation went fine. db connections are fine. IIS setup fine.

password I told it to use during install doesn't let me in for admin.

Help!

This was after moving vault to a new web server and restoring the vault db to another machine. In addition, when connecting via vault client, the usernames and passwords appear to be invalid!

found my problem. I had not copied over sgmaster, only sgvault database. After restoring sgmaster to the new database, I ran the installer (repair) and everything was working again.

To Kem:

We've had reports of problems with Vault's cookies when the server name has an underscore in it. This might be causing the login issue.

Oh yeah. I had forgotten about that issue. We had run into it while doing some work with DotNetNuke last year. See: MS01-55 -- http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... US;q312461
