Vault Server 3.5.2.5087 installation failure
I just downloaded Vault Server 3.5.2, which I assume is the latest build (digitally signed on Saturday, April 21, 2007 6:18:07AM). The installation failed with the following error. Please help!

Did you follow these steps from our installation guide:
http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/support/install1.html
http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/support/install1.html
The next step is to enable IIS meta-base and IIS 6 configuration compatibility. This setting is in Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features On or off -> IIS Web Management Tools -> IIS Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility.

I read through the document. This seems to be the only stepped I missed. When I tried setting this, I get the following error:lbauer wrote:Did you follow these steps from our installation guide:

An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed.
I've searched the web and am not coming up with anything close that could help me figure out why it's failing. I cleared the System event log before I began the change. After the error message, the Event Viewer shows 140 errors that all seem to say something to the effect of "Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of setting package XYZ (Feature/Language Pack) into Installed(Installed) state".
Any ideas?
Hi Linda,
I'm hitting the same problem, which prevents me from installing Vault Server 4 on my brand new Vista machine.
Have you heard of solutions to that problem since then?
TIA,

Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit Vista machine?
Vault 4.0.x is not supported on 64-bit Vista.
If you have a 32-bit machine, it is supported, but only in IIS 6 compatibility mode. If there's a problem setting that mode, then it's a Microsoft issue. We haven't heard from other users about how they may have gotten this resolved, unfortunately.

It's 32-bits Vista. The problem is indeed a Windows problem. I just hoped you had heard about someone else solving it.
Too bad I can't start evaluating Vault but I'm fully aware that this is not your fault.
Thanks anyway.

Solution
Linda,
FYI, I found the solution to the problem (well, at least, it worked for me).
1. Open the directory %SystemDrive%\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys
You need to remove the checkbox in 'Hide OS protected files' in Explorer/Folders options to see the 'all users' dir on Vista!
(note that the if you are in XP or W2K3 the directory changes to \documents and settings\all users\...)
2. Grant explicit access to BUILTIN\Administrators and SYSTEM to the following files (you should have at least one file):
7a436fe806e483969f48a894af2fe9a1
d6d986f09a1ee04e24c949879fdb506c
c2319c42033a5ca7f44e731bfd3fa2b5
That's it.
